60th Anniversary of the Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagazaki
August 2005 marks the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Urged on by the Hibakusha -- the survivors of the first nuclear attacks -- the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have called for “A Year of Remembrance and Action for a Nuclear Weapons Free World.” There are a variety of events scheduled throughout the U.S. to recognize the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
This reflective poem by Russell Gardner recalls effects on people over the years and our continuing need, through prayer and faith-based action, to pursue the end of war -- especially for the future and well-being of children.
