Ponderings in Jail "Be still and know that I am God." |
||||||||||
| Being still allows the Sounds to enter into my being. Being still enhances my ability to hear and respond, listen and internalize. Being still cultivates the God-life within Ardeth, stop the hustle and bustle of the activist role, stop the clutter of meaningless noises. Quiet your spirit, flame your heart. I am your God. Allow the Sounds to be transformed and transform you. Yes, jail is a place filled with noises. Listen! Listen! Listen! Click of the PA monitoring system. Gasps for air from one withdrawing from heroin. Sobbing in the night. Tongue-lashing of family in an inmate's phone call. Drum-beat of fists pounding on walls. Thunder-roar on TV of B-52s, B-1s, F-6's at war in Iraq. Rumbling motors of heater, wash machines, Screams of inmates releasing tension. Guards shouting orders in the middle of the night. Water and mud slides over Honduras and Nicaragua. Talk, talk, talk shows--Jerry Springer, Rick Lake, Jennie Jones, etc. |
